Actavis, the international generic pharmaceutical company, has recently launched three new prescription medications; all three being first to market products. Valsartan (Valsotens) and Fluvastatin (Luvinsta) belong to the cardiovascular class whilst Donepezil (Donecept) belongs to the nervous system.
The total Actavis portfolio is now made up of forty-four medicinal products. The total portfolio is set to continue to increase further in 2009, confirming Actavis as the leading generic pharmaceutical company in Malta.

• Valsotens contains Valsartan, which is an Angiotensin II Antagonist. Valsotens is indicated in patients who are suffering from hypertension or who have recently suffered from a myocardial infarction (12hrs – 10days). Valsotens is available in 2 doses: 80mg and 160mg. Each dose is available in packs of 28 tabs.

•Luvinsta SR contains Fluvastatin, which is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. Luvinsta is indicated to treat patients suffering from primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed hyperlipidaemia as an adjunct to diet when response to diet and other non-pharmacological treatments is inadequate. Luvinsta SR is also indicated in patients with coronary heart disease for the secondary prevention of coronary events after percutaneous coronary intervention. Luvinsta is available in 80mg strength and in packs of 30 slow-release tablets.

• Donecept contains Donepezil, which is an anticholinesterase used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer’s dementia. Donecept is available in 5mg dose and in packs of 30 tablets.
