Actavis announces the launch of Lendrate (Alendronic acid) 70mg tablets on the local market. Lendrate is the 48th product to be launched on the local market and the portfolio is set to continue to increase further in the coming months.

Lendrate is available as 70mg tablets and each blister pack contains 4 tablets. It is used in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and it reduces the risk of vertebral and hip fractures. The recommended dosage is one 70 mg tablet once weekly.
The active ingredient of Lendrate, alendronate sodium trihydrate, is a bisphosphonate that inhibits osteoclastic bone resorption with no direct effect on bone formation. Preclinical studies have shown preferential localisation of alendronate to sites of active resorption. Activity of osteoclasts is inhibited, but recruitment or attachment of osteoclasts is not affected. The bone formed during treatment with alendronate is of normal quality.
