Actavis Ltd, first in Malta to be granted the AEO Status Certificate

Actavis Ltd., located in Bulebel, has been granted the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Status Certificate by the Customs Division.

Following Actavis Ltd’s application for AEO full Certification, the Customs AEO Audit Team audited the company in detail versus the criteria of compliance, record-keeping, financial solvency and safety and security. Following this assessment, the Team recommended to the Customs management the granting of full AEO status to Actavis Ltd.

The AEO status is an accreditation that ensures compliance with the requirements of the supply chain.  The AEO regulation encourages companies to increase security, in exchange for incentives which will improve the efficiency of the supply chain and ultimately reduce costs. These incentives include, among others, less physical customs checks, easier reporting, lower customs risk classification and priority during product checks in the case of products selected for inspection.  The aim of the EU is to ensure that all goods move into and out of the territory of the community in a controlled manner; this way the plannability, accuracy and calculability of the movement of goods will improve for economic operators, too. During the customs procedure the selection of the goods or documents to be inspected is based on a complicated risk assessment process. The AEO status can mean a level of positive discrimination for the holder that currently can not be achieved in any other way. An authorised economic operator is an "open book" for the authorities: it is a reliable, low-risk business and thus, one that does not need to be inspected.

Actavis Ltd is a subsidiary of the Actavis Group, a multinational pharmaceutical organization employing 11,000 people in 32 countries worldwide.  The Maltese operation alone boasts a workforce of no less than 500 highly skilled employees.
